On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the roundtable “Financing Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Projects in Slovenia” was held in Ljubljana, bringing together more than 100 representatives from ministries, financial institutions, industry, research organisations, local authorities and professional associations.
The event was organised by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy – National Hub of the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition, and the Jožef Stefan Institute – Energy Efficiency Centre, within the framework of the EU LIFE SMAFIN Expanded, GreenRenoV8 and European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition initiatives.
The programme featured keynote presentations, panel discussions and thematic sessions focusing on renewable energy deployment, sustainable finance and the acceleration of Slovenia’s green transition. A dedicated session addressed the challenges of comprehensive building renovation, highlighting the need to integrate energy efficiency and seismic resilience while improving financing mechanisms for long-term renovation programmes.
Experts and stakeholders discussed the current state of building renovation in Slovenia and identified the key barriers to scaling up renovation efforts. Discussions emphasised that while the necessary technologies and policy ambitions are already in place, achieving the 2050 renovation objectives will require stronger institutional coordination, more effective financial incentives, improved stakeholder support and a greater focus on comprehensive rather than partial renovations.
The event also provided an important platform for exchanging good practices, strengthening cooperation among stakeholders and identifying policy recommendations to support a faster and more effective renovation of Slovenia’s building stock.
