Lower energy bills, living comfort, investment cost, earthquake safety or environmental impact – which renovation benefits matter most? In five European countries, we are gathering the views of building owners, residents, building managers, professionals and policymakers. The survey takes 10 minutes and is open until 30 September 2026.

Building renovation can deliver several benefits at the same time, but these can often involve trade-offs: a comprehensive energy renovation can reduce energy costs and emissions, but requires a larger investment; seismic strengthening improves safety, but can mean longer and more disruptive construction works. How these benefits should be balanced is not just a technical question – it depends on what matters most to the people who live in, manage or finance buildings.

As part of the GreenRenoV8 project, co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, partners from Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Austria and Belgium are developing a common method for comparing renovation options – from moderate energy renovation to comprehensive renovation combined with seismic strengthening. The method assesses different renovation benefits using weights, which we want to determine based on the views of stakeholders in each country, rather than relying solely on researchers’ assessments.

Participants are asked to compare two criteria at a time and indicate which is more important to them and to what extent. Each criterion is accompanied by a short explanation, and no prior knowledge is required. The survey is available in English, is anonymous and does not require any information about your building. The results will be published in aggregated form by country and stakeholder group.

We invite owners and residents of multi-apartment buildings, building managers, energy and construction professionals, representatives of municipalities and public institutions, and financing organisations to participate. The survey takes 10 minutes and is open until 30 October 2026.
